Student protests against fees – Manchester
After the NUS organised student demo in London the other week, today saw student demos against increased tuition fees across the UK, in all the major cities. As we're based in Manchester, we went out onto the streets to support the peaceful demonstration and get some photographs.
Nick Clegg has come out and said he regrets signing the pledge the Liberal Democrats made to students during the election earlier this year. This is still not enough, it's important that students and the general public speak out. Today seems to have been very effective as the media have been all over it. There was violence once again in London, which is a real shame, but we must remember that many who cause harm are not students themselves.
Remember to keep signing the petition against increased tuition fees and eduction cuts! And send it to everyone you know.
Here are some of the photos we managed to snap from the Manchester demo today. They're from the protest along Oxford Road (which runs through the universities) where the police were out in force and setup a roadblock disrupting city traffic.
If you have your own photos from any of the demos today across the UK, please feel free to post them in the comments.
